Getting a Doula was the best decision I made-Mary Anne
A Client's testimonial
I worked with DOULA Wambui almost 2 years ago for my second baby. I know you must all be wondering why would anybody need a doula for a second baby? Well, if you were there for my first delivery you’ll agree getting Doula Wambui was the best thing ever.
My first delivery was ummmm…kinda stressful. Actually the whole pregnancy was not exactly blissful. It was my first baby and my husband & I both felt so overwhelmed. Of course I did the usual extensive reading on baby center, bought baby books and talked to other mums. But I still felt so anxious. The day I went into labor I remember calling my doctor around 11.00pm and telling him, I think I’m in labour!
With a very calm and sleepy voice he replied just relax and go back to bed. We’ll talk in the morning. If the pain persists you can go to the hospital and I’ll meet you there. Okay I’m sure he delivers many babies in a week so my anxious voice didn’t really move him.
My husband and I of course didn’t go back to sleep that night. Who would be anyway. So at 6.00am sharp we took our bags and went to hospital. Yup I was in labour alright…..but only 3cm dilated. To cut this long story short. I spent the better of the Day in hospital and later on a nurse put a drip on my hand which I discovered was some medicine to speed up the contractions. Such a painful way to speed up a natural process.
In short my delivery was not how I had envisioned. Going home was also a bit tough. There was a lot I hadn’t planned for and there was such a learning curve for my husband and I. My first born had colic so it was just a tough few months. When I see my 5 year old boy I just smile, give thanks. Tumetoka mbali.
So when I got pregnant again I purposed to have a different experience.
Doula Wambui was an awesome choice.
We started having the child birth classes around month 8 of my pregnancy. We discussed how I wanted to deliver, whether I wanted drugs or not. She even accompanied me to visit the hospital and make a decision on which hospital I wanted to deliver in. We worked on exercises to get me ready for delivery. The day I went into labor was so peaceful.
Doula Wambui was out of town with her family but she came back to be with me.
We stayed home as she timed the contractions. We felt prepared and had even made plans for where my son and niece would go once I went in labour. 90% of my labour I spent at home which was awesome. When it was time to go to hospital she was right there with me. It really allowed my husband time to breath, check me in. During delivery she helped me with breathing and staying focused.
We had Erica Badu playing in the background which is what I wanted. Music just soothes me. I was in hospital from check in to delivery a total of 1 hour! My birth plan included photos I wanted which Doula Wambui gladly helped manage. As you can imagine my husband and I were so emotional at that time in awe at our new bundle of joy.
Going home I felt more prepared. Doula Wambui came by to help me with breast feeding. There is an actual technique to it to avoid getting sore nipples and a bad back.
I’m extremely happy with the services I got from Doula Wambui. My second pregnancy and delivery were very peaceful. Her techniques pre delivery and after are very helpful. She’s a great partner to have during one of the most emotional moment of a woman’s life. And a man’s too.
